QuarkXPress Displays File Not Found Error at Launch

Affects:
Windows XP, Vista, Win 7
QuarkXPress 7, 8, 9

Solution

  1. This problem can be resolved by disabling McAfee 8 for a short time so that QuarkXPress can write to its Preferences folder without interference from the   virus protection software. To disable McAfee 8 you can turn off McAfee, disable the McAfee service, or, if necessary, uninstall McAfee and reinstall after creating a new Preferences folder for QuarkXPress.

  2.  Select Start>Run
  • Type 'regedit' in the Run window
  • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Explorer>Shell Folders>Local AppData
  • The value of this registry should be “C:\Users\{Current UserName}\AppData\Local”. (Please note that {Current UserName} should be the actual username of the logged in user and not the string “{Current UserName}”.)
  •  Close regedit

PS: You may also try to delete the Quark folder if it gets created in %Appdata%\ (AppData\Quark) and try to run the program installer if you are trying to install the software

Note:
1.Changes to the Windows registry should be made only under the supervision of an IT expert.
2.
Back up your Windows registry before making any changes to it.
