Photoshop DCS 2 Displays Blank In QuarkXPress with Full Resolution Preview Selected

To resolve this issue, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the DCS file in Photoshop.
  2. Go to File>>Save as and choose DCS 2.0 in the Save As dialog.
  3. Choose Ā“Multiple File with CompositeĀ” under the DCS tab in the next dialog and save the file.
  4. Import the image into QuarkXPress and apply Full Resolution Preview. If you have saved the file with the correct settings, it will display correctly when you choose Full Resolution Preview.

Background:
A DCS (Desktop Color Separation) file is a type of EPS that contains pre-separated plate information for all the colors used in a Photoshop image. This format is used to reduce printing time because the RIP needs to spend less time calculating the separations needed to print an image. In Photoshop you have an option to save a DCS file either with or without a composite preview. If you save without a composite preview, then QuarkXPress cannot generate a Full Resolution Preview for the image.
