QuarkXPress Crashes with Phase One Color Profile Loaded

Applies to: QuarkXPress 8 or QuarkXPress 9  — All Mac OS, All Windows

Problem Description: Whenever I attempt to launch QuarkXPress 8 and I have Phase One color profiles loaded, the application crashes.

Background: Phase One specializes in digital photography equipment. The company is primarily known for its digital backs for medium and large format cameras, such as Hasselblat and other high end camera manufacturers. One of their products,  CaptureOne, uses Phase One’s proprietary processing software and comes with profiles for the EOS-1D and EOS-1Ds under various light conditions. Capture One also allows you to choose a specific destination color profile for output, web, and proof destinations as well as for your monitor profile. When any Phase One profile is loaded into the Profiles folder, QuarkXPress 8 crashes at launch.

Solution: As of the writing of this article, the only solution for this issue is to remove all the Phase One profiles from the following locations except for the profiles for the specific devices you actually have:

Applications:QuarkXPress 8: Required Components:Profiles folder
or
Hard Drive:Library:ColorSync:Profiles folder.
